It is no secret that 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. Whether you have been dealing with financial worries or struggling with lockdown, you’ve likely been under a lot of stress. However, as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that we move forward into 2021 with positivity at the forefront. Know that whatever troubles we may face, we will overcome them together. It is time to stress less.

With that in mind, here are some tips for managing stress in the new year.

Worry Once

The more you stress over something, the more consumed you will be by feelings of stress and anxiety. Therefore, one way in which you can battle stress in 2021 is by allowing yourself a small moment of worry and stress – before deciding that you will no longer think about the issue. Giving yourself a brief moment to stress is a great way to relieve tension, but it is unproductive if you spend all of your time doing so.

Find an outlet

Finding an outlet is another great way to handle stress. Whether you practice yoga and meditation or take part in something more creative, be sure to find a hobby that leaves you feeling relaxed and refreshed. You may wish to find something the whole family can do together – such as hiking through a local nature reserve or spend time alone – find an outlet that works for you and factor it into your daily routine.

Take a break

When you are busy, you are often more stressed. It can feel as though you always have something to do, but there aren’t enough hours in the day to do it. It is important to remember that you are not a robot – and that you can’t always be on the go.

From time to time, you need a break. It does not matter how many deadlines you have or how many meetings you need to attend – you will not be able to let go of your stress unless you take a step back.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with taking a break when you need one.

Ask for help

Sometimes, we become so overwhelmed with stress that we need additional help. Whether this means you reach out to mental health services or your friend and family – never be afraid to ask for support.

There are a variety of programs in place to help you deal with stress, from one to one therapy or support groups with those in a similar situation. There are also thousands of resources online designed to help you find a way to manage your day to day stress.

So, if you feel as though you are struggling, now is the time to let your voice be heard. You’ll be surprised about how much better you feel once you start speaking to others.

Remember, no matter what troubles you are facing in 2021 or what is causing your stress, there are better times ahead. You can and will get through this.
